He studied social communication and journalism at Universidad de La Sabana, with emphasis in investigative journalism. He began his career as a producer and camera director at Caracol Televisión, where he worked for 8 years in the entertainment programs No me lo cambie and También caerás. From 2000-2006 he worked as an investigative journalist, writer and anchor of Univision 14 newscast in San Francisco, California. While there, in 2004, he received the AWRT Gracie Allen Award (New York) in the In the New Story-Single category for Busco Trabajo/Cooperativa, produced by Univision 14. The same year, he also received the NMC EXPO (SACRAMENTO) Best Investigative/ In-Depth (Broadcast) in the Mixtecos category for El juicio del silencio, produced by New California Media.
